Nan & Ma’s Wat Pho Pre-Wedding Photoshoot — A Nostalgic, Rain-Soaked Bangkok Love Story on Film
Some pre-wedding days are chased by golden light. Nan and Ma’s was chased by clouds — and then, halfway through, by rain. Shot entirely on analog film for a soft, nostalgic mood, their photoshoot leaned into the weather rather than fighting it. The overcast sky at Wat Pho gave every frame a gentle, muted tone, and when the rain arrived near the river, it turned into one of the most memorable parts of the day. This is a story about two people, an unpredictable Bangkok sky, and the quiet beauty of letting a shoot unfold exactly as it comes.
Not every pre-wedding shoot goes as planned, and honestly, some of the best ones don’t. Nan and Ma’s day at Wat Pho started under a heavy, overcast sky — the kind of soft, diffused light that photographers quietly hope for when shooting on film. We chose to shoot the entire session on analog cameras specifically for this reason: film has a way of holding onto mood, grain, and warmth that digital sometimes smooths away, and a cloudy day is exactly the kind of light that film handles beautifully. Wat Pho’s mosaic-tiled chedis and gilded architecture took on a softer, more painterly quality under that grey sky, and Nan and Ma moved through the temple grounds at an easy, unhurried pace, pausing by the golden Buddha statues and tracing the ornate tilework with their fingers.
As we made our way toward Wat Pho Pier, with Wat Arun rising across the river, the sky finally let go — and it started to rain. Rather than pack up, we leaned into it. There’s something genuinely romantic about two people caught in the rain together, sheltering close, laughing at the timing of it all, with the river and the silhouette of Wat Arun blurring softly in the background. Shot on film, those rain-soaked frames came out with a texture and nostalgia that’s hard to replicate digitally — a little grainy, a little imperfect, and completely honest to how the moment actually felt. It’s often these unplanned moments, not the posed ones, that end up being a couple’s favorite frames from the whole day.
From the pier, we moved to a rooftop overlooking Bangkok’s skyline as the clouds began to thin toward evening. Nan changed into a flowing white gown, and the mood shifted from intimate and nostalgic to quietly elegant — wide shots of the dress against the muted grey-blue skyline, close portraits as the light softened further, and finally the city lights beginning to glow as blue hour settled in. Even here, the analog film kept its signature warmth, giving the rooftop portraits a timeless, almost storybook quality rather than the crisp, high-contrast look of a typical digital shoot.
